In 2001, the museum began a groundbreaking transformation to expand and modernize so that it could host even more one-of-a-kind exhibits in the future. Rafael Viñoly, a world-renowned architect from Uruguay, is in charge of the reconstruction.The museum is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m.- to 9 p.m; it's closed on Mondays. Admission to the main exhibits and museum is free to the general public. Special exhibits, which change on a regular basis, may have special admission prices.
Some exhibits are currently closed due to the reconstruction. The expansion is set to be completed in early 2012.
Parking is available in the museum garage off of Jeptha Drive. $5 to $10 max.
